The society of laboratory animal science (GV-SOLAS) is an incorporated association with a view to stimulate science working at the field of laboratory animal science. Laboratory animal science is a basis science of bio-medical research.

Involving the science-based fields of veterinary medicine, biology and human medicine GV-SOLAS has the goal: 

  • to set-up working groups to the topics of nutrition, hygiene, breeding, husbandry, education and animal welfare
  • to release monographic publication with reference recommendations regarding different aspects of laboratory animal science
  • to educate persons involved in animal experiments
  • to award  the title “ Expert of Laboratory Animal Science GV-SOLAS” ( Fachwissenschaftler für Versuchstierkunde GV-SOLAS)
  • to organized annual congress ( every three years in collaboration with the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations - FELASA)
  • to present a prize for scientific papers
  • to sponsor scientists
  • to affiliate and collaborate with international committees and associations
The society of laboratory animal science serves as a consultant for the legislator and for the publicity, when  expert knowledge about experimental animals and their welfare is required.
